Dutch Culture! 18 Unmissable Typical Dutch Foods

I met Leyla Kazim, the food writer behind The Cutlery Chronicles, on a shoot promoting the Zillertal region in Austria. In September 2019 she hired me for the first of our five films together: a project for easyJet, made with the support of Visit Holland, to show two Dutch cities beyond Amsterdam.

Over two to three days in Utrecht and The Hague, we tasted our way through 18 typical Dutch foods. I filmed alone, following Leyla through several places a day and adapting to each new location and light. She directed and presented, and she rarely needed more than a second take. I then edited and colour graded the film.

It became the most-watched film we made together. A month later, she hired me again for Toronto. The film first ran on her blog and YouTube channel, and you can still watch it on her Facebook page.

“Our schedules were often long and demanding, spanning multiple destinations… Ricardo managed all of that without ever getting stressed.”
